Sunny Scarecrow

 

Materials:

  • Assorted ribbons in fall colors
  • 2 1/2 yards burlap for overalls and head
  • 1 yard burlap in contrasting color for shirt
  • 5' long bamboo stick
  • Straw hat
  • 2 dried sunflowers
  • Assorted dried fall flowers and leaves
  • Raffia
  • Newspaper
  • Hot glue gun
  • Black paint
  • Red Paint
  • White paint

 

Instructions:

 

  1. Cut two simple pant shapes from 2 1/2 yards of burlap. Hot glue seams and turn right side out. Cut out two circles from remaining burlap for face. Glue around seam, leaving a small opening for neck and turn right side out.

     

  2. Cut out simple shirt shape with contrasting color burlap. Hot glue seams, leaving small opening at the neck and turn right side out.

     

  3. Hot glue pants to shirt and stuff both with newspaper to form body.

     

  4. Stuff head with newspaper and hot glue to shoulders.

     

  5. Slide bamboo stick up through the center of body and above shoulders to support the head.

     

  6. Hot glue ribbon around sleeves and cuffs and over shoulders to form overall straps.

     

  7. Stuff sleeves and pant legs with raffia, dried flowers and leaves.

     

  8. Paint on eyes, nose and mouth as in photograph.

     

  9. Glue sunflowers and ribbons to straw hat. Glue hat to scarecrow, making sure eyes show.

     

  10. Glue sunflower and assorted dried flowers at scarecrow's hip.
