Materials:

  • Piece of corkboard
  • Acrylic paints: black, burnt sienna (rust), golden brown and white
  • Eraser
  • Fine point back and red markers
  • Flat ¼” paintbrush
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Transfer paper
  • Cosmetic sponges
  • Paper plate
  • Paper towels
  • Saucer
  • Water container

Instructions:

  • Trace or draw patterns for each ball onto white paper. Cut out shapes for easier transferring to cork. Use a pencil to draw circle and lines. Pencil marks can then be erased.

  • Baseball Coaster: Cut cork into a circle using scissors. (Tip: Use a saucer for the round pattern). Using a cosmetic sponge, pounce on white background. When the white paint is dry, draw stitching seam lines onto ball using a pencil. (Use a glass for the curved pattern). Draw the stitches in with red marker. Define the stitch line with a black marker.

  • Soccer Ball Coaster: Cut cork into a circle using scissors. Sponge on white background. When dry, trace pattern using transfer paper. Use ¼” brush to paint in black spots. (Note: Black spots are 5-sided, white spots are 6-sided). Darken seam lines with the black marker.

  • Football Coaster: Cut cork into football shape with scissors. Sponge on golden brown background. When dry, trace pattern using transfer paper. With a flat brush, paint stripes and stitches white. Use a black marker to detail seam lines.

  • Basketball Coaster: Cut cork into circle using scissors. Sponge on burnt sienna background. When dry, trace on seam lines using transfer paper. Use a black marker to draw on seam lines. Erase any excess pencil lines.
