PREPARATION - Wash glassware
with vinegar and dry. (Hint: Try to handle your dishes as little as possible
when painting.) PAINTING INSTRUCTIONS MUGS - Note: Size of borders, stripes and checks may be adjusted to fit various sizes of dishes. BLUE BACKGROUND - Sponge or brush on a 1:1 mixture of Williamsburg Blue and Navy and paint all blue backgrounds on all pieces. Let dry about an hour and repeat if needed. Transfer pattern. DAISY 1. Using Gloss White and #6 filbert, stroke daisy petals on. Repeat with second coat if needed. 2. Use Cadmium Yellow for centers, coating several times to get a solid color and letting dry between coats. 3. Shade centers by loading #6 flat brush with Cadmium Yellow and then touch the corner in Burnt Sienna. Walk this back and forth to blend the two colors together. Float a C-stroke across the lower area of the yellow. Float a small C-stroke in the center. 4. With another #6 flat brush, side load with a mix of Gloss White and a small amount of Cadmium Yellow and float this across the top side of the yellow and then float a small amount next to the small shaded stroke in the center. LADYBUGS 1. Basecoat with #6 flat brush loaded with Christmas Red plus a small amount of Burnt Sienna. Repeat as often as needed, ending with a coat of Christmas Red only. 2. With the same #6 flat brush, load Christmas Red with a sideload of a very small amount of Gloss Black. Walk this color back and forth on your palette to blend, then float this on one side of the bug. 3. Use #4 flat brush to fill the head area in with solid black. 4. With #0 script liner, paint a line across the bug’s back and two dots with Gloss Black. 5. Add Cadmium Yellow dots around the design using the wooden end of the brush. YELLOW AREAS 1. Using #10 shader, basecoat with a mix of Cadmium Yellow and Gloss White. Repeat as needed, allowing dry time between coats. 2. Apply large Gloss Black dots with wooden end of brush that has been sawed off. BLUE PLAID 1. With #10 shader, basecoat with Gloss White. Mark where stripes will go and paint them with #4 or #6 flat brush, using a mix of Baby Blue and Williamsburg Blue (a little more Baby Blue than Williamsburg Blue). Repeat if needed. 2. Using #4 shader, paint the area where the stripes cross with 2 coats of Navy Blue with a pin drop of Lavender added. 3. With liner, paint Gloss Black lines on each side of blue stripes. FINISHING INSTRUCTIONS - Using Gloss Black and a liner brush, outline bands around mugs and saucers. Follow directions on paint bottle for curing and baking the pieces. LAMP 1. Paint daisies Gloss White with Cadmium Yellow centers, shaded with Terra Cotta and then a little Chocolate. 2. Basecoat ladybugs Christmas Red and shade with Christmas Red plus Gloss Black. Dots are also Gloss Black. |
