PATTERN

Instructions

PREPARATION
Note - Because of the curvature of the bowl, patterns are cut from plain white paper to create templates. Templates are then arranged and taped to the inside of the glass bowl, creating painting guides. For larger or small bowls or cups, use as few or as many templates as needed.

1. Trace the patterns onto tracing paper. Flip the paper over and retrace the lines with pencil. Flip paper back over to original side.

2. Place traced designs onto plain white paper and retrace over leaf outlines only with stylus, transferring design. You will need a total of five large leaves and five small leaves for the large bowl. Leaf faces will be transferred after leaves are painted.

3. Cut the 10 templates out with scissors. Evenly arrange the five large leaves inside the glass bowl with face upward toward the bowl rim. Tape into place to hold securely against the curved glass surface. Repeat for the smaller leaves, placing them between each larger leaf.

PAINTING INSTRUCTIONS

Large Leaves
1. Use large angular shader brush to basecoat each leaf with Cadmium Yellow. When dry, apply a second basecoat. Let dry. For the first leaf, double load your brush with Cranberry shading color and Cadmium Yellow base color. Apply shading color around leaf edges, following the general outline of your template. Let dry.

2. Transfer face design onto leaf. Use 1/4" stippler brush to tap Cranberry shading around leaf edges and onto cheek areas.

3. Use #2 round brush to paint nose with Cranberry and add tiny Buttermilk highlight dots to nose and cheeks.

4. Use #1 liner to paint each of the eyes Gloss Black. Use #8 round brush to fill in the inner mouth area with Gloss Black, leaving tongue Cadmium Yellow. Use #1 liner to outline face details and border outline with black. With #4 round brush, add some quick True Gold Metallic strokes around each rounded side edge of leaf. Repeat same procedure for the next leaf, using Hunter instead of Cranberry. Repeat same procedure again for remaining leaves using Burnt Sienna, Avocado and Christmas Red shading colors.

Small Leaves
Basecoat leaf shapes with Orange, using 1/8" angular shader. Each of the leaves are painted as directed for the larger leaves, using the smaller brushes listed.

Cups
1. Reduce leaf pattern for cups.

2. Transfer pattern and paint according to directions for bowl.

Details
1. Add accent dots around the leaves with Buttermilk and True Gold Metallic.

2. Paint vines as desired with #0 liner and Gloss Black. When dry, go over each of the black lines with True Gold Metallic.
