Horsing Around

Materials:

5 toilet paper tubes

1 paper towel tube

Masking tape

Newspaper torn in strips

Small bowl of wallpaper paste

Paintbrush

Paint

Scissors

Felt

Instructions:

1.                   Cut the paper towel tube so it is just slightly larger than the toilet paper tubes.  These will be the legs, neck, and head of the horse.  Take one of the leg tubes, flatten it slightly, and cut the top at an angle so that it fits the body tube.  Cut the other three leg tubes in the same way.  Cut the top and bottom of the neck tube and the top of the head tube at an angle, as well.

2.                   Tape the tubes together to form the horse’s body.  Cover the tubes with a layer of torn newspaper dipped in the wallpaper paste.  Cover the joints carefully.  Wait for the paper mache to dry.  Cover the tubes with about three layers of paper mache.

3.                   Paint your horse and decorate it with felt cut in strips for the mane and the tail.  Glue the felt pieces to the horse.
