Materials:

 

To make one butterfly, one dragonfly, and one bumblebee you will need the following materials:
  •  Acrylic paints: black, blue, bright pink, dark lavender, light blue, light green, light pink, orange, white, yellow
  • Craft glue
  • Craft snips
  • Needle-nosed pliers
  • Paintbrush
  • Scissors
  • White fine-tip opaque marker, black fine-tip marker
  • Adhesive-backed magnetic strip, 3" long
  • (3) 24-gauge black wire, 4" long
  • (6) wiggle eyes, 4 mm
  • (9) wooden craft spoons

 

Instructions:

 

  1. Paint one craft spoon with bright pink, one with blue, one black with yellow stripes, and two with white.

     

  2. Paint the top halves of two craft spoons with orange and the bottom halves with yellow.

     

  3. Paint rhw top halves of two craft spoons with light green and the bottom halves with dark lavender.

     

  4. Using the end of the paintbrush handle, paint dots for cheeks on the bright pink (butterfly), blue (dragonfly), and black and yellow (bumblebee) craft spoons with light pink. Paint dots on the butterfly's body with dark lavender.

     

  5. Draw a nose and a mouth on the butterfly and the dragonfly with a black marker.

     

  6. Draw a nose and mouth on the bumblebee with a white marker.

     

  7. Paint a large dot at the top of each orange/yellow craft spoons (butterfly wings) with light green. Paint a wavy line from dot to the center of the wings with light green. Paint a large dot at the bottom of each wing with bright pink. Paint a wavy line from the dot to the center of wings with bright pink.

     

  8. Paint horizontal wavy lines down the drag-onfly’s body with light green. Paint horizontal lines in between the wavy lines with bright pink.

     

  9. Using the end of the paintbrush handle, paint dots at the top of each light green/dark lavender craft spoons (dragonfly wings) with yellow. Paint dots at the bottom of each wing with bright pink. Paint dots at the top of each white spoon (bumblebee wings) with light blue.

     

  10. Randomly draw dots inside the yellow stripes on the bumblebee’s body with the black marker.

     

  11. Using craft snips, cut approximately 1" from the bottoms of the bumblebee wings. Discard cut-off pieces.

     

  12. Glue eyes in place.

     

  13. Glue matching wings together, then glue appropriate bodies to tops of wings.

     

  14. To make the antennae, bend each length of wire in half and curl each end with needle-nosed pliers, then glue in place.

     

  15. Cut magnetic strip into three 1" lengths.

     

  16. Remove backing from magnetic strips and adhere to backs of butterfly, dragonfly, and bumblebee.
