Instructions

PREPARATION
1. Fill any holes with wood filler.

2. Sand smooth first with 220 grit sandpaper, followed by 320 grit. Clean dust off with tack cloth. Seal with Multi-Purpose Sealer.

PAINTING INSTRUCTIONS
1. Paint inside with choice of one of the above colors as desired, using the 2" flat brush; let dry.

2. Place strips of waxed paper between the lid and trunk to help prevent the paint from sealing the chest closed. Paint entire outer surface Shimmering Silver with the 2" flat brush; let dry.

3. When dry, apply Weathered Wood over entire surface, using a moist cloth to wipe away excess where needed. Allow Weathered Wood to dry at least an hour before moving on to next step. When Weathered Wood is dry the surface will appear to have uneven coverage and will feel like the glue side of a postage stamp.

4. Paint lid of chest with Evening Blue, using the 1" flat brush. How the paint is applied will determine the direction and size of the cracks (for smaller cracks, thin paint with a small amount of water). Do not overstroke paint. Let dry completely.

5. Use scissors to cut a 3-1/2" X 3-1/2" square from compressed sponge. Moisten cut sponge with water and squeeze out excess. Pour Tuscany Red paint onto palette, cover one side of sponge with paint, and wipe off excess.
Lift lid and take off waxed paper and begin sponging Tuscany Red diamonds in the upper right corner.

Helpful Hint: For even placement, line up the sponge’s right and left corners with the edge and press to create half diamond . If paint should smudge or placement is slightly off, wait to correct until step 5 is complete. Continue pattern across and below. Fold sponge as needed to complete bottom row.

6. Rinse sponge clean and reuse to complete pattern with Honeycomb.

7. Paint the base of the chest with Evening Blue, using the 1" flat brush.

8. Once the harlequin pattern has dried, use a #6 flat brush to paint Evening Blue dots between the top and bottom of the Tuscany Red diamonds.

9. Paint four Hunter Green petals on the left, right, top and bottom of each dot.

FINISHING INSTRUCTIONS
1. Allow to dry 24 hours, then apply a top coat of Satin Varnish with a 1" flat brush to seal the Weathered Wood. Make sure to keep lid and bottom separated.

2. Allow paint to cure for one week; then apply paste wax to edges where lid meets trunk.
