PAINTING INSTRUCTIONS
Note: All flowers, leaves, butterflies and berries are basecoated with round brush. After basecoating, add thin application of water or Brush ‘n Blend between layers of color with filbert brush. Set brush down with pressure and gradually decrease pressure as you pull color toward center of flower or leaf tip.

Leaves
1. Paint Avocado. When dry, shade along stem end of leaf with Evergreen; wipe brush and pat edge to blend. Apply shade to half of leaf.
2. For highlight, mix Cadmium Yellow and Evergreen; use filbert brush to create comma strokes on the light half of leaf. Beginning at halfway point, work to tip and fill in at base. Use chisel edge to add short strokes that follow contour of leaf on dark side. Outline with mix of Black Plum and Cadmium Yellow.

Flowers
1. Shade flower with Black Plum. Pull it from center of flower onto skirt, from center up into front of bowl, from middle up into back petals. Fill in center. Mix white and Alizarin Crimson. Pull your strokes from tips of petals toward center, leaving plenty of shading visible. Dampen area; reaffirm shading.
2. Add Alizarin Crimson and white to dirty brush, creating a medium value, and repaint petals, pulling strokes from tips toward center. Dampen area. Highlights are stroke of white, as shown on pattern.
3. Make short Cadmium Yellow petals along back row of petals. Tap Evergreen into middle; while still wet, add Cadmium Yellow to
dirty brush and tap throughout.
4. Outline with mix of Black Plum, Alizarin Crimson and white, making color lightest in front.

Berries
1. Dampen one end of swab. Twirl between thumb and forefinger to remove water. Cut away tip of cotton and reshape. Basecoat berries with mix of Dioxazine Purple and white.
2. Mix white, black and Dioxazine Purple to medium grey. Load prepared swab lightly with mix and stamp in round berries. Let dry.
3. Float Cadmium Yellow on the lower half of each circle and highlight with white on upper half of circles down middle and left side of berries.
4. Dampen area; apply Dioxazine Purple around edge and pat to blend.
5. Outline each circle with Dioxazine Purple and add white dot to center of highest circles. Fill liner with Evergreen, streak through Cadmium Yellow and paint calyx.

Butterfly

2. Add Alizarin Crimson and white to dirty brush; pull medium value from tip toward center.
