Materials:
1 sheet of
red construction paper
Paint
Scrap of
black paper
1 piece of
white construction paper
1 piece of
pink construction paper
Masking tape
Scissors
Knife
Markers
Pencil
Ruler
Paintbrush
Optional: 2
paper reinforcements for the eyes
Instructions:
- Tape any
openings on the box closed. Using masking tape so you can paint on it later.
- Place the
box front-side-down on red construction paper. Trace around the box and cut
it out. This will become the inside of the mouth for the puppet.
- Measure
the box to find the middle, and draw a line around the box at the middle. The
line should go across the back and two sides.
- Have an
adult use a sharp knife and cut a slit along the line. This will be a
starting point for your scissors to cut. Cut along the line across the back
and the two sides of the box. Don’t cut the front!
- Paint the
box white. You will need to give it two coats of paint.
- After the
paint dries, glue the red construction paper to the uncut side of the box.
- Make bunny
ears out of construction paper, cutting them as one piece, and glue them to
the inside of the box so they stick up at the top. Fold them forward a little
so they will stand up.
- Paint eyes
on the top of the box (or make eyes with markers or paper reinforcements).
Paint a nose and mouth for the rabbit.
- Cut out
two front teeth and glue them so they will hang over the edge of the mouth.
- Bend the
box back. Insert your fingers in to the top half and your thumb in the bottom
half. Can your puppet say, “Hi!”
