PREPARATION 1. Sand chest with medium, then fine sandpaper; wipe with tack cloth. 2. Basecoat with 2:1 mix of Light Willow and Bright Blue mixed with an equal part Staining Medium. 3. Transfer patterns. PAINTING INSTRUCTIONS Morning glories Using #12 flat brush, side load* Coral Rose and Titanium White and paint a one-stroke technique for each petal. Small pink flowers Side load #8 flat brush with Coral Rose and Hi-Lite Flesh and form each petal of small pink flowers with one stroke. Daisies Side load #8 brush with Sand and Titanium White to make daisies. Larkspur Side load #6 brush with Sapphire and Titanium White and use chisel edge of brush, working from inside to outer edge to create larkspur. Note: Use Burnt Umber on the end of the brush handle for center of flowers. Hydrangeas For hydrangeas, use small scruffy brush double loaded with Blue Violet and white, then add Sapphire to brush for depth. Leaves 1. For large leaves, use #12 and #10 shaders, side loading with Hauser Dark Green and Titanium White. 2. Make small leaves with #8 brush, side loaded with Leaf Green and white. 3. Create half leaves with #6 flat brush side loaded with Leaf Green and white. Vines 1. Use chisel edge of #8 brush to create main vines, side loading Leaf Green and white. 2. For light vines and tendrils, mix Leaf Green and water 1:1 to inky consistency, add a touch of Burnt Umber and apply with script liner. FINISHING INSTRUCTIONS 1. Antique the entire chest with 1:1 mix of Glorious Gold and water, using sponge brush and wiping back with soft cloth. 2. Seal with two coats of Satin Varnish. |
